It's been a while since my last post, I have spent some of this time wonder were I will take Aussie kids boutique from here. I would love to continue showcasing gorgeous new finds. but I would also like to offer opportunities for crafters to have their item reviewed by some of our lovely readers.

I am also hoping to offer advertising to wahp within Australia. this will start on a small donation basis of a handmade item for giveaways, and in return you will receive a plug on the blog for a month.

Well I am back online, my computer has been at the doctors for the last week and rather sick before that. The weather is starting to get rather cold here, so my children and I have been finding winter hats and gloves and all the wooly blankets.

Taking a little break

You may have noticed this poor blog has been very quiet recently. Unfortunately I just haven't had the time to maintain it - maintaining 3 blogs and two websites, plus sewing my little heart out AND being a mum, wife, daughter, friend...doesn't leave much time.
We have a big trip planned, when I return I'll see how I go, but in the meantime, if there is anyone out there in the crafty blog world, familiar with Blogger, who would like to help form a little team of helpers to maintain it, I'd be ever so grateful, please contact me!

Visit The Handmade Expo this week and help the appeal

The Handmade Expo is donating 30c from every paying adult on our Saturday 14th March expo (Ipswich Showgrounds, 8am-2pm) to the Red Cross for the Vic Bushfire Appeal. We will also be taking donations on the day (we get between 1000 & 2000 people through).
If you are anywhere in South East Queensland, please attend and help them raise as much as possible.

I've been designing and making children's gifts (aprons, art totes, cushions, soft toys and stationery) for about 3 years (casually) and 18 months (in earnest!).

Inspiration: I was first inspired when I discovered the wonderful world of quilting fabrics and started to experiment with colours and patterns to make things for my eldest daughter. My 2 gorgeous girls now inspire me on a daily basis.

When not creating I look after my family, read (especially craft books and magazines!), cook, enjoy the lovely outdoors around Sydney's parks and beaches and, as we love to travel, try to get away on the odd holiday.

First item sold: A linen cushion with Russian Doll (Matryoshka) applique. They're still my most popular item today.

Favourite item created: A red, white and blue tote bag with French inspired fabrics, trims and vintage buttons.

How long have you been drawing and designing? I have been drawing since a small child and a professional graphic designer for 15 years after graduating from the Queensland College of Art.

What inspired you to get started? My Father inspired me to draw when I was little, he is a very talented artist. He was a screen printer and sign writer by trade and also illustrated comic strips for The Australian.

What do you do when you’re not creating? I'm a mother of three small children which keeps me very busy during daylight hours. I love spending time with my family and friends. (I probably should pay more attention to the dreaded housework.)

Do you remember the first item you sold? Yes - my Woolly Mammoth Dream limited edition art print. I sold it to a lady in the United States.

What is your favourite item you have created? My Paris Collection. It's hanging on my daughter's bedroom wall. I think it's really playful, featuring a little girl wearing her mother's oversized shoes which just happen to match her pet poodle.

The item that has most meaning to me is my Kissing Frogs illustration as this was the very first artwork I completed for my Twinkle Star Art shop.

I started making them for my daughter and for kids birthday presents and everyone commented on them, so I thought I would give it a try at a local shop I used to work in and they sold out in 2 days, I approached more and more stores and here I am

Being a Mum to my 3 babies! kinder runs, swimming, cooking, cleaning The usual Mummy duties, Other than that I like going to fancy restaurants with my husband and Of course I cant forget shopping! I just Love shopping.

I dont remember the first item I sold, as I was just giving them away at the start, but I remember how pleased I was when I supplied to my very first shop

What is your favorite item you have created?
I can't think of a favorite item, as everything I make I absolutly love, if I am not 100% happy with it I wont make it... But I do love the bows and denim covered clips!

Introducing...Look At The Wall

How did you get into wall art designs? How did you come up with the concept?

Like many new mums who take on the task of decorating their baby’s nursery, I frantically searched for the perfect wall art pieces. It had to be cool, carry a contemporary edge, all the while being colourful, happy and inspiring to let little minds run wild. I couldn’t find anything appropriate so I decided to make my own and from that point the “artist” grew and that is how “Look at the Wall” was created.

“Look at the Wall” has limited edition collages handmade from a variety of papers such as magazines, maps, old atlases or really any paper at all. Each piece is individually cut, so you may find slight variations in the handiwork and colour schemes but that is exactly what makes each piece unique.

Do you come from a design background?
I have always been creative but spent many years at University with two degrees in Biomedical Science and Radiography. Over the past few years I have also been teaching at Monash University. Designing artwork was only supposed to be a hobby while on maternity leave, however, it has developed into a small business.

What are your works inspired by?
People always ask me who inspires or motivates me and I always answer “my kids”. It may seem cliché but what they see, what they find, what they create, always makes me think differently and see things in a whole new way. Now that my oldest child is nearly four and youngest one, I, of course, have learnt so much by watching and listening to them. They are my inspiration, my collaborators too and source for many ideas. I guess I’m also really inspired by anyone who is “creating”– whether it’s my style or not, their process of creating something they’re passionate about is really motivating to me.

What are some wall art designs you have done? How do you create the images?
I mainly focus on animals, however, if someone has an idea or would like a specific colour scheme, I am always ready to be prompted by their creative inspiration. Basically I draw an initial design, cut and sand the wood, select from a vast array of different papers (if anyone want to find a home for their scrap papers I can put them to good use), assemble the collage, glue, seal and varnish with an epoxy resin.

What is the most challenging?
Finding the time to complete my orders. I work late at night or when my kids are sleeping (not much these days) but I always manage to somehow finish them. However, the hardest part is actually selecting the papers. It is like choosing what you are going to wear. Not all colours go together!

A few Christmas delights

It's the first day of December and Christmas is in the air! My little one and I spent the morning shopping for a few gifts, and bought a couple of cheap Christmas CDs to get us in the festive spirit, so I have been looking for beautiful Christmas goodies!

What are your hobbies (besides designing and making bows)? I love to spend time with my family and friends. I love Thai Food, going out dancing. Not that I get to go out dancing too much these days.

How did you come up with your name? is there a story behind it? I came up with the name Chantilly Bowtique because my name is Chantelle and as a child my family would to sing the Big Bopper song 'Chantilly Lace' to me. I thought is was a nice way to link back to my childhood as my products are for children.

Where do you sell your designs? I have an online store at www.ChantillyBowtique.com and a couple of other online boutiques. I am in the process of marketing my accessories in boutiques throughout Australia.

What got you started? I've always been on the lookout for different accessories for my little girl and could never find excactly what I was after. So I just thought I'd make them myself. The rest is history!

Do you remember the first bow you sold? Gosh it seems like so long ago! I know it sold on ebay but I cannot remember what it was. I'll take a guess. I bet it was definately pink!

What is your favorite design you have created? I really love my 'fruit salad' funky loopy bows. They just scream for attention. There's plenty of bright colours with polkadots, French ribbon. My daughter loves them!

Mathilda's Market Brisbane wrap up

I've been a bit sick...and more than a bit slack with the blog recently!

We had a FANTASTIC response at the Brisbane Mathilda's Market. The crowds weren't huge, but they were spending! We were very happy with the results for our TikiBoo Kids.
I forgot my camera! There is no excuse...I have 3 of them, but I didn't even take one. I did have a chance for a quick walk around and saw some fabulous goodies.
Here are a few of my favourites from the day:

Wall Allure - Wall stickons really are the latest thing, and Bernadette makes all her own right here in Queensland. I bought some as gifts, then this adorable bird for our bedroom wall. LOVE them.

Ruffian Industries - Uber trendy retro style t-shirts for boys. YES, for boys. Mandy's designs are very cool.

Wild Things of Noosa - Selina makes the cutest little bucket hats, toys and bloomers, so cute for the little ones.

Lisa Olivers Canvases Personalised canvases for kids rooms, I particularly love this nautical lighthouse.

Heart On Your Sleeve - Tennille's beautiful handmade children's jewellery and hair accessories are perfect for little girls everywhere (I didn't buy this time as I already have lots of her goodies at home!)

If anyone has a report from the markets in the other states, I'd love to add it!

Where are you located? Online and work from home in Nailsworth, South Australia

How long have you been sewing/designing? I’ve always been interested in craft and sewing since I was young, perhaps five or six. I started making my own clothes when I was fourteen and I even made my own wedding dress!

What inspired you to get started? I had decided to not return to the workforce after having my child but wanted to contribute monetarily to the family budget. I had been making hats and clothing for my daughter as a baby and friends were asking me to make things for them. Having always wanted to have a creative career, I decided to launch my own online store to both make money and have fun!

What do you do when you’re not sewing? Thinking about sewing, thinking about the business, running the online store side of things. Eating chocolate, reading blogs, searching for vintage patterns.

Do you remember the first item you sold? Not really, it was mostly to family and friends, but I do remember the first sale I had through my online store and I was jumping around the house like a silly woman!! It was so exciting to think that someone ‘out there’ like my work enough to purchase it.

What is your favorite item you have created? At the moment I’m in love with the large Steiner dolls I make. They have so many hours of work put into them, it’s hard not to fall in love with each doll as they come to life.

Favourite fabric designer? Michael Miller for his retro children’s prints. Absolutely in love with them!

SO many of the kids sheet and quilt sets out there are just... Well they are licensed... Or they have so much pink they make even me want to turn down the “pink-o-meter”.

So I began searching for something handmade and pretty... I didn’t have an awful lot of luck to begin with, but did find this...

A gorgeous Play rug from mimoo on etsy. One of our favourite gifts we received when Charlotte was born was a unique handmade play rug. It got used every day, every where when she was little. And it has been my quest ever since to find something similar and just as nice to give someone else as a baby shower present – as very few people would remember a play mat is needed.

I love the colours and stripes on this one, for a boy or girl. I also love her apple play rugs too.

Next my search found this gorgeous set at Crab Apple Bedding

I love her retro vintage prints, and that you can get matching cushions and even buntings. Corinne’s quilt covers are custom made and can even include your child’s name.

And if there is a boy in my belly at the moment, I will have trouble not buying this one

This bed wrap from Rainbow Revolution on MadeIt is pretty spectacular! It has been hand made and hand dyed in all the rainbow hues using fibre reactive dyes. It will fit around any bed, from a cradle to a king size...can you imagine, sleeping inside a rainbow, bliss!

Zippy Zippy, also on MadeIt, creates these gorgeous custom made name garlands. What a fantastic gift for any child. This one is red and white on black denim, a very funky combination.

I am loving this cushion Nisha found on MadeIt, at Peaceful Provisions. The cushion features an original screen printed design of a blossom tree with hovering dragonflies. The dragonflies are made of light pink felt and have been sewn on with silver thread. It also comes in a pink version.

Our guest blogger this week is the lovely Amanda of the Swish and Swanky blog. Swish and Swanky is one of my favourite regular blogs to read, a collection of fabulous finds, design inspiration and lifes loves.

This was quite a challenge to find beautiful kids clothing that's both handmade and made right here in Australia. As a mother of 3 kidlets, I'm always on the lookout for unique designs that represent each of their individual styles. There is definitely a void in the market for funky boys clothes but here are a few of my favourite finds:

I love this patchwork skirt from Ponz. Each garment is handmade so you're guaranteed a unique design. My 3 year old daughter Mia loves teaming these big twirly skirts with leggings.

I scream for ice cream. These ice cream necklaces from J2aney's etsy store really do look delicious enough to eat!

My bubba Lola is too big for this baby boho tunic dress but I couldn't resist sharing. Designed and handcrafted by MadeIt store Oopsidaisi by Sam this little dress would be perfect for a tiny girls first summer. Features vintage cotton Lace , hand dyed pom pom trim and embroidery.

Where are you located?
I have a decked out studio in my home in Perth in Western Australia! My hubby did it all for me and everyone who comes here says it looks like a fabric shop LOL!!

How long have you been sewing/designing?
Mum first started teaching me (and my sisters) to sew 35 years ago - Mum is a seamstress (retired years ago!), but I only seriously got into the designing of childrens clothes when my kids were little for a bit, more recently about 3 years ago I turned my hand to it full time.

What inspired you to get started?
I was inspired by some dresses that I had seen on photobucket. I had never seen such gorgeous dresses with ruffles and layers and coloured fabric that took my breath away - I had no way of finding out who the designer was as I just came upn an open the pics in her photo albums (this was back when you didn't need a password to see into someones photobucket album. I was in awe... I had been looking for something to fill my time, I had just come out of a long term illness (8 years of treatment) and was finally well and needed something to help me get back into the world - these dresses were it for me - I felt like they were calling me... It took me a while but eventually I discovered that they were designed by the amazing Jennifer from Bella Tessa Designs - ( found her blog and through that I found lots of other inspiration too!
but yeah, Jennifer from Bella Tessa was my starting inspiration (not that she even knows that!)

What do you do when you're not sewing?
When I am not sewing I do lots of things, look after my family, (cleaning etc) but cooking is a big part of it, I have done lots of cooking and catering and there are always recipes to be tried and mouths to be fed (big ones and lots of extra ones!!) in our house! I also love to read, I would read all day long and just sew..... If I could, that would be my life, sewing and reading and cooking. then bed, then more sewing, more cooking, more reading then bed, you see what I am getting at here LOL!!! Although I am very often found cuddling one of my great big kids or my lovely hubby who is my rock!

Do you remember the first item you sold?
The first item I sold was a size 8 Betty Boop Dress in black and white (I actually still have some of that fabric - it's gorgeous!). I sold it about 5 yrs ago and the lady who bought it from me came back to me and bought another one exactly the same in a larger size about a year later because her granddaughtter had grown out of it..... That is when I started trying to mulit-size dresses - elastic backs etc....And it works!

What is your favorite item you have created?
My favorite item, that changes all the time. It was the big ruffled patchwork Christmas dress I am about to put in my etsy shop, but now I think it is the one I designed yesterday for the opening of my etsy shop, my Petit Rose Set - I love it!! Made the patern from scratch, designed it in the middle of the night, Never done a box pleate before let alone one without a pattern. I love it though - it is just so pretty and feminine.

Favourite fabric designer?
My favorite Fabric Designer would have to be Sandi Henderson, her stuff is unreal! I love it and I have a big stack of it that I am having really bad trouble not wanting to cut it!! Don't want to wreck it! Although Heather Bailey's new Pop Bijoux is yummy! I bought some and it arrived the other day and I just reordered a big pile more!! She rocks Heather Bailey! And Anna Maria Horner's new stuff, didn't like the chocolate lollipops but her commercial weight stuff is to die for!

I have been looking for something gorgeous for my daughter for her birthday which is coming up and have found some lovely things that are handmade in Australia which of course owning Joliv I have to love - problem is I can’t get them all so now I have to decide! aghhhh.

I just love this retro dress from etsy seller inretrospect and can just picture her in it during summer. I’m sure I had something like it when I was little!

And these beautiful bloomers from Wild Things of Noosa on MadeIt will be perfect for my friends little girl - who is gorgeous enough but in these she will just look even more adorable! See how hard these things are for me - I get distracted so very easily by pretty things! I’m starting to see where my daughter gets it from - lol

Olivia loves to help out in the kitchen and loves to look the part of whatever she is doing so a pinafore from Millie Bean on MadeIt would also go down a treat.

Or should I go sensible and get this lovely top from another MadeIt seller, Kowinkidink...it is practical and so very cute….

Oh decisions decisions - I don’t think this has helped! lol

Oh well back to the party planning instead, invitations to finish, food to organise etc etc - a mothers work is never done - well I hope not anyway.

We are slowly recovering from our super early morning yesterday, attending our first market for All You Need. It was a fun day, we met lots of lovely people, ate lots of yummy goodies and sold lots of beautiful TikiBoo clothes, hairclips and baby toys!

Anna discovered this sweet Holly Hobby sun dress made from recycled vintage Holly Hobbie fabric teamed with coordinating florals and trims.
This dress is based off a vintage pattern so it has a real 70's vibe to it.
It's from another etsy seller, eviegreenpixie.

And Tash found this cute Retro blue and orange halter tunic on Made-It.
It's from seller Black Eyed Suzie and would be a great little summer top or wear a turtleneck underneath on cooler days.
The contrasting royal blue and orange Katie Jump Rope fabrics give it a real retro look.

Here are our beautiful finds for today. I hope you like them!
Tiffany found this stunning dress at Missy Muddles. Beautiful smock made from 100% silk velvet, this item may be worn as a dress through to a top due to its loose style fit, the silk velvet has been pre-washed so that it can be washed by hand in cold water later.
This gorgeous dress may be worn as is over a simple tank and tights or layered for winter with jeans and a long sleeve top.

Sherilyn at tees 2 knees makes beautiful applique t-shirts. They even make the shirts! This one is called Doggy Woggy, and is way too cute. With his fluffy nose and happy face he is perfect for little boys or little girls.

The Sweet Cherry Delight dress with apron appliqued in a pair of cherries, and matching capri pants (it also comes with a set of Ribbonista bows!).
Very fun and summery. Delicious!

Marnie from Bergan Blue loves these pink and brown spotted bloomers from 3 Red Buttons on Etsy.
Thay are made from Japanese 100% cotton fabric and feature 3 rows of ruffles on the back. They are gorgeous on crawling babies as the ruffles look great but the bloomers don't impede the crawling like skirts & dresses can.

Kylie from Avonlea Design makes the loveliest applique bibs.
She says of this one: It is handcrafted with care, made from quality soft white flannelette and the back is made from fleece for extra absorbency.

A pretty bird is appliquéd onto the front, and it is bound using Joel Dewberry designer fabrics. So stylish - it would be perfect as a special bib to take out.

These beautiful All About Heidi pre-walker shoes are from Sally at Fairy K isses boutique. They are are crafted from a single piece of leather! They have a velcro tab, and can also be adjusted for width by loosening the leather ties on the heels and toes. And my favourite colour too.

Yes, I know, I missed yesterday, I am so very sorry about that.

But, have a look at some of the cute things we have today! This really groovy art smock is from Jodie at the Poss Bloss Shop. I just adore the retro scooter design and the hot pink colour. The body is PVC, so cleans up easily, and the sleeves are 100% cotton.

Another one for the girls today - Leigh from Ribbonista makes beautiful Boutique hair bows.
These bows are really popular in the USA, it would be great to see them take off here too, they are so adorable and really dress up an outfit. This set is called Summer Fizz.

Rachel from Knitwish sells these cuties in her etsy store (along with some adorable knitted toys!).
These lovely hand knitted baby booties in two shades of blue have matching pearlised buttons and crossover straps for that vintage look. Perfect for keeping little toes warm!
They would make a gorgeous baby shower or welcome to the world gift for a new baby.

Tammy found this Batik Kimono Top and Pants set at etsy's Ogekko store.
The top is made from an authentic indonesian batik matched with a dark green quilter's cotton.
The batik top is bound around the edges (not sleeves) with the dark green fabric and ties on the inside (with white ribbon) and on the outside.

The pants are a wide-legged, cropped style with an elasticised waist and co-ordinating batik borders around the hems.

Tennille from Heart on your Sleeve found these great shorts on etsy.

From Pinna4piper, The fabric features screen print images of the Taronga Zoo with 2 giraffes and a lion, 2 people at the beach under umbrellas, 2 sailboats sailing the Sydney Harbour and more.
They really would be perfect for a fun summer day at the beach!
So, I decided to add one of Tennille creations as our second item for today! I adore her princess necklaces, this one is Snow White. The centre princess bead is made of polymer clay and the surrounding beads are cats eyes, Czech glass and sterling silver.
How cute is that?! She has other princesses as well in her Heart on Your Sleeve store.

Just in time! I've had a busy day, along with a horrid flu, but we have our entries for Wednesday.
Both of today's items were found by Sarah, who doesn't have a blog for us to link too just yet.

These adorable embroidered felt baby shoes are another etsy find, from the Embroidery Baby shop.
They are simply stunning, in bright red felt with yellow embroidery, they certainly would be, as claimed in the store, for the baby who's not afraid of standing out from the footwear crowd!

Sarah also found us this very sweet Baby Girl Cross Over Set - Jacket and Pants, from ShipShap, on Made It. Made from 100% cotton interlock, it would be a perfect gift for a newborn.

Elizabeth from La Toriana sent in this great necklace which I had to include as it is designed for a boy! Yes, this is the only entry so for something for boys. This one is called "Max" and is made by L'il Ned (and stocked by Elizabeth in her La Toriana store.
We would love to see more groovy items for boys, please, is it says, little guys can be just as cool, trendy and fashionable as the girls!

Nisha (who designed the All You Need logo and banner to the right) found these sweet Dotty Pink Bloomers on etsy, made by 3 R ed Buttons.
I love bloomers on little girls, they are so cute, especially on a crawler. These are pink with a multitude of ruffles, very sweet!

Amanda from Swish and Swanky has found this gorgeous avocado green dress from the Made By Miffy ebay store.
Made from a gorgeous avocado broderie anglais fabric featuring handmade ruffle, bow, and piping in vintage Amy Butler Ginger Bliss fabric that is no longer available. The generous sashes that tie at the back also feature a Ginger bliss cutout to carry the pattern through to the back.

This is a lovely party or Sunday best dress that will make you smile each time your girl wears it!

This cute butterfly set was discoverd on Ozebaby by Leigh from Ribbo nista. It was made by Vanessa at Cute Tooshies and is called "Blue Butterflies". It features a pair of denim jeans with ruffles and embroidery. A long-sleeved peasant top made of interlock and a pinafore made of turquoise velour, lined with matching interlock with some gorgeous bows.

You might find something on Esty. It's a trove of handmade treasures - not much in the way of the Custom Boutique we are searching for, but some beautiful things to be found just the same!

So, these are my finds for this evening, all from Australian sellers.

These adorable Apple baby booties are from Etsy seller Pedrosprout. Are they not the cutest booties you've ever seen? Such a shame they wouldn't fit my little girl! They

come in a whole range of beautiful colours and designs.

This dress from Missy Muddles is a bit different to the type of thing I'd usually add to our blog, but it's so unique and lovely! a simple black dress adorned with hand dyed vintage trims and hand painted lace. It has a real charm about it and could be either dressed up with tights or casual with jeans.

So, off you go and bring me back some amazing new finds!

Where are the Aussie Boutiquers hiding?

I've searched and searched...but to no avail so far! So back to ebay and checking out some of the hot items over in the USA. Like this Custom Boutique Halloween Set from Jenna Claire Boutique.

The detail is pretty amazing, the "Spooktacular" and the jeans detail is all appliqued. Bids for this set are currently at $207.50. And wow, look at the back of the jeans! That detail is amazing!

Finding Australian Boutiquers is not proving to be easy. But, I've managed to find one! Penny from Sweet Chilli Designs. This is one of her current ebay listings, isn't it adorable?!

Boutique Couture?

If you've never heard of Boutique Couture, aka Custom Boutique kids clothing, then you are missing out on a world of wonderful!
Jeans. Lovingly appliqued and embellished. Stripwork dresses in a riot of designer fabric colour. Ruffles, twirly skirts, shirring - all in one divine creation. Amazing intricate hair bows designed to match perfectly.
We aren't just talking about handmade clothing, we're talking about something special. Something beautiful. An outfit that is almost a work of art. An ensemble that guarantees your child will be more than just one of the crowd - because no other child is going to have an outfit quite like yours.

In the USA, Boutique Couture has a massive following, mostly on eBay. Some designs can sell for hundreds of dollars. The amount of work and love which goes into creating these special outfits is incredible.
